 FAQ Tape To DVD Conversions

Can I play DVD's on my computer?
The answer is it depends on your computer. Older computers equipped with DVD–rom did not include a hardware decoder. They relied on software to do the job. In some cases the software could not keep up and you got poor playback. Most newer computers come equipped with DVD-RW and should run fine. Again, order our demo DVD just to make sure. It’s especially important to test the DVD player before any important presentation you plan to make. A good DVD player for the computer is from Intervideo WINDVD 6.

Can you record in Mpeg4 format?
Yes, but make sure the player can also play back mpeg4’s.

Can my vacation photos, slides and video be put on one DVD?
Yes we can.

Can your DVD-r be played on any CD player?
No, they can not. However DVD players will be able to play most CD's.

What if I were to make a tape to tape copy instead of DVD?
Every time you copy a tape you lose a little bit of quality. By transferring the tape to DVD the quality will not degrade. It’s easier to create DVD copies and maintain the same quality over time thus eliminating losing any more quality.

What is your turnaround time?
For smaller jobs, two or three days. Larger jobs can take one to three weeks. Rush orders will cost more.

Does your DVD-R media play back in all DVD Players?
Our DVD-R media will play back on most newer DVD players (within the last 4 years). It is important to read your manual first. I good way to test compatibility is to order a demo DVD from us. It’s especially important to test the DVD player before any important presentation you plan to make.

How long will a DVD last?
Most DVD disk manufactures will not specify a lifespan for their DVD’s. Although industry estimates very, anywhere from 5 to 50 years. DVD life expectancy is determined by many factors but perhaps the most important factor is how the DVD is handled. Scratches can destroy a DVD. That’s why we offer an Annual Storage Plan. This assures you that your most precious memories are secured for life.

Can the quality of the original tape be improved?

The answer depends on the original condition of the tape. We apply colour and contrast enhancements to the DVD version of your tape. Most people will notice a difference in quality.

How much can you fit on one DVD?

A DVD-R disc can hold approximately 2 hours worth of standard quality video.

Can you transfer 8mm, Super8 and 16mm film to DVD?

Presently we don’t offer this service although we probably will in the near future.

Can you make a copy of commercial DVD?

Unless you can prove that you are the copyright owner of the material, the answer is no.

Will your DVD-R media work in Playstation 2 and X-Box game machines?

That depends, some “modified” PS2 and X-box will not run our DVD’s. We don’t recommend using gaming machine to play our DVD’s. It’s better to use a stand alone DVD player.
