Photo Scanning Prices and Digital Image Pricing

Photo Slideshow Prices :

We believe in charging for only the services that you really want. This is why you have several options to choose from. It takes many hours to make a good presentation. Each service adds to the time it takes us to make the photo show.

You will receive two copies of your digital slideshow. The photo slide show will be placed on a cd (usually called a VCD) and a DVD (usually called DVD-r). They are a wonderful gift idea.

To calculate the price of your digital slide show (add the Photo Scanning price + $49.99 for creating the slideshow (up to 120 photos + Optional extras and taxes).

For example, a typical breakdown of the cost for a slideshow of 100 photos or slides including 3 songs would be:

1) To Scan 100 photos: (100 x .49 cents) = $49.99
2) Include 3 songs that you provide us with = $20.00 (optional extra)
3) 20 photos/slides which require minor repairs and cropping (average $1.25 per photo = $25.00)
4) Slideshow Creation : $49.99 (you get both a VCD and a DVD-r copy)

Total Cost = $144.98 (optional extras & applicable taxes have not been included in this price).

The price includes these 3 services:

1) Photo Processing For Slideshow:

- Automated colour restoration.

- Automated contrast adjustments on all scanned and digital photos.

- Each image is individually viewed and will be colour assessed and adjusted for: color, exposure, saturation, and orientation (if necessary).

- Digital photos will be converted to jpeg file format...free of charge.

- Resolution: VCD 2.0 format (720 x 480) and DVD-r format (720 x 480). Both are DVD quality. The difference is that the VCD format is more compatible with older dvd players that can't play the DVD-r format. Also, DVD-r can hold more photos if needed.

- You receive both the slideshow and the digital photos which allows you to make prints from the VCD or DVD. Again, this is ideal for gift giving.

-- Mandatory Charge. Our scanners are so good they can pick up even the smallest imperfections (scratches, mold, dust, etc). Unfortunately, these imperfections become magnified on the TV Screen. Especially when we zoom in on a face. This really detracts from the presentation if not removed. That's why we make this a mandatory requirement. Minor photo retouching is $1.00 to $2.00 per photo/slide. We remove dust, small scratches, red eye, dark contrast, minor blurring). On average 15 to 30% of all photos/slides require this service.

Note: if your going to make prints from the scans, this service is ideal.

2) Slide Processing For Your Slideshow:
- All slides scanned will have the Digital Ice filter applied (which removes small scratches and dust) and ROC (colour restoration) and contrast adjustments performed on your slides only.

- Free cropping of slides to remove borders.

- Slides are scanned in at 2000 dpi and saved in jpeg format. They are suitable for 6 x 9 prints!

3) More Included Services:
- Free 2d Random Transitions with "Pan and Zoom". The Pan and Zoom feature or the Ken Burns effect as it is sometimes called is perhaps the most important part of the show. It gives you a professional documentary feel to your DVD.

- Each picture is set to show between 3 to 5 seconds (adjustable). Depending on music and transitions (2 seconds per photo).

- Maximum of 8 chapters per main menu.

- Your personalized text imprinted on a VCD and DVD-r disk with a free slim line jewel case.

You are welcome to choose the order of the photos (if you want to).

Optional Extras:
-- We can include up to 3 songs that you supply us with for only $20.00. Additional songs are $5.00 each. For this service we convert the song from cd to mp3 format. Most songs have silent gaps at the beginning and end. We remove these gaps by editing each song. Without removing the gaps the presentation can have awkward silent moments. Furthermore we try to synchronize the music to the number of photos and slides that you have. Click here for music suggestions.

- photos larger than 6 x 4 will have to be processed for .25 cents more because it takes us longer to do.

- If you want the borders of your photos removed we charge .15 cents per photo. This is useful if you want to give people the ability to make prints from the DVD. In most cases the border will not be seen in the slideshow because of the pan and zoom feature.

- DVD case and cover page with photo of your choice and text please add $10.00. This will make it look like at store bought DVD case!

- If you have more than 120 photos in your slide show, each additional photo over the initial 120 will cost .50 cents plus the scanning price. For example, the print scan will be .50 cents + .49 cents. For digital prints it will be .50 cents + .29 cents. We need to charge more due to the extra time it takes to make the slide show. The scanning prices remain the same.
- 3D transition $20.00 per 120 photos/slides.
- Optional: We can also purchase a song for you at $5.00 per song.
- For 300 dpi jpeg scans add .05 cents more per photo.
- Convert DVD to tape: $20.00 for the first VHS tape that you order and any duplicates will cost:
$ 9.95 - will include a new VHS copy in a plastic case (text only cover).
$ 13.99 - will include a new VHS copy in a plastic case (photo and text cover).

Slideshow Guidelines

If you want to preface a bunch of photos with a few words (text frames) you should make sure that each screen of text is composed of no more than 3 lines. Each line can be up to 13 characters in length. We can fit more but it will be harder for your viewers to read. Of course you can have as many text frames as you require.

Note: we will not create, edit or proof read your text unless you ask us to, however, if asked we will charge $40.00 per slideshow. E-mail us your text information in order to avoid mistakes. Also, please insert the text frames in between your photos or slides.

Estimating Music Length: 1 minute of song is equivalent to approximately 35 photos, slides & text frames. Therefore, a 3 three minute song will synchronize well with 105 photos, slides & text frames.

Note: DVD-R disks can hold between 1500-1700 scanned digitized photos. A VCD can hold approximately 215 photos and 5 (3 minute songs).

If you are trying to estimate the number of pictures you have, the following is a good rule of thumb. There are approximately 80 pictures in an inch of photos. You don't have to count the photos, we will tally it. Same goes for the slides. Do not use markers to denote order. This can damage your photos. Use Post-It notes instead.

Before placing your order, please check your DVD manual to make sure it can read either VCD formatted disks and or DVD-r disks. How Do I Know If My DVD Player Will Be Able To Read Your Disks?
Note: If your DVD player is not compatible, don't worry, we can put the slide show on VHS tape. The important thing is that your preserving the photos!

If your files are not in jpeg format we must charge an additional .10 cents per digital photo to have it converted to jpeg.

If you're sending us a CD-R or USB micro drive please make sure your photos are sorted by image name. We need all of your images put in one folder. That folder can have up to 99 sub folders. In other words, you can have ONE folder on your disk with multiple sub folders, but you can not have sub folders within sub folders. If we have to organize this for you the charge will be $1.00 per folder regardless of how many images are in it.

If we have to load more than one disk (media) of images, the charge will be $1.00 for each extra disk.

Carefully select your music's length to match the display time of your slide show. Each 3 minute song reduces the amount of photos you can fit on a DVD by 200!

Your VCD or DVD main menu will be composed of several slideshows. Each show is represented by a photograph. Lets say you wanted some shows to display text instead of a photo. For example you could display the following text at the start of a show, "Class of 85", or "Birthday Party". We call this extra slide a text frame. Each text frame is $1.

Also adding text to a photo is $1 more per photo. Note the text is only viewable when playing on the slideshow, not on the actual photo. Ideal for special photos and DVD chapter menus. For example, we added the text "Photos On TV" to the photo below.

We don't have to add the text directly to the photo, instead, we can add it to the Photo Slideshow.

Scanning Individual Pages in a Photo Album

If the photos are not covered with any kind of plastic sheeting, we can scan the photos without removing them from the pages. We charge $5 CDN per page(front and back) plus the price for scanning each photo on the page. If there is any writing on the page we can scan that in as well, at the usual scanning price.

Photos in plastic pocket sheets can be risky because some photos have become glued to the plastic. Removing them could ruin them. By sending us your photo albums you agree not to hold us libel for any damage that may occur (see our slideshow terms and conditions page). If you are willing to take this risk then we will be happy to give you a quote once we see the condition of the album. Prices start at $7 per album page(depending on conditions), plus the cost of scanning each photo. This is quite time consuming. We need to delicately remove each picture from both sides of the page, scan them and then put them back in the pockets.
